Windy conditions, about one meter, to test the high-end 8-foot board from the Australian foam surfboard brand Softlite, the Test Tube 8'0. Seb won't complain, given the last month we've had in France.
Softboard Center: Hi Seb! Why did you choose this board?
Seb: I was looking for a voluminous summer board, preferably foam, so I wouldn't have to worry when it's crowded in the water. So I really wanted to test this one; it seemed to have a good shape.
Softboard Center: So, what's your impression?
Seb: I had time to catch 3 or 4 waves in about 15 minutes. I was able to paddle from the back, board flat. That was very practical. In shortboard, the waves were closing out very quickly.
The board's construction is excellent; the triple rails grip really well. The board is very stiff and floats super well, a joy to paddle. Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised, and at times you almost forget you're surfing on a foam surfboard. The only drawback is the soft fins. They're more than sufficient for beginners, but I think the board takes on another dimension with real fins, and I'd really like to test it with my usual fins.
Softboard Center: Have you surfed foam boards before?
Seb: Yes, notably Decathlon boards or school boards at my old surf club. I can't say I didn't like those boards, but this one, for once, you immediately feel that the board is more responsive than one of those boards in terms of rail engagement (see next photo). And it's still cool for beginners since it floats well. I'll add this to my quiver for small summer days.
